If your layout works and your cabinet boxes are solid, painting, refacing, or renewal paired with new countertops may deliver ninety percent of a renovation's impact at a fraction of the disruption. If the layout fails you daily — a refrigerator that blocks the walkway, an island too small to gather around — that's when a full renovation earns its keep.

Decide everything before anything begins
